Can Better Search Tools Help Us Reclaim Online Photos?
Understanding where pictures appear is a first step toward privacy control.

Images travel quickly once they are uploaded. A photo may be copied, cropped, reposted or attached to information its subject never intended to share.
Reverse image search and visual matching tools can help locate some copies, but no service can promise complete coverage of the internet. Results may include lookalikes, outdated pages and false matches.
From idea to everyday practice
Anyone requesting removal should first determine who hosts the content and what policies apply. A takedown request to one website will not necessarily remove copies from others or instantly update search results.
Privacy tools work best when they are transparent about limitations and respectful of the rights of the people pictured.
